i never fertilize eucalptus growing in the ground and my eucs grow on very nutrient poor soil---eucs are naturally adapted to growing in low fertility soil and most "experts" advise against this practice. btw, in almost any other tree 8' in 3 years would be considered fairly good growth. one of the problems of eucs is that they tend to grow so fast that their crowns and stems are too tall in relation to their root systems leading to blowdown and wind breakage so relatively slow but steady growth may actually be better in the long run. good luck with your trees.
