I have 4 little Oregon myrtles growing along the back south fence. Umbellularia californica.
These are evergreen trees which grow SLOWLY. Very very slowly. After a couple hundred years it may be 100' feet tall and 100' wide. You don't see those giants anymore because people cut them down for the myrtle wood which is exquisite and made into display items.
I planted them where it used to be sunny and wet but the south neighbors put up a 6' high wood fence next to my chainlink fence last summer, and the willows and other trees are growing and providing summer shade.
The 4 Oregon myrtles are doing very well. The 1st 2 years they were straggly. Now they're competing for light and growing, finally showing signs of getting established.
