Actually, the leaves aren't dropping, they are just dead on the tree.
I did top-dress with some bloodmeal, bonemeal, composted chicken manure (well-aged, etc.) and compost maybe about 2-3 months before the leaves started dying. I thought maybe that might be what did it - but would the tree still be affected by that a year after the top dressing was applied?
It could be a root problem - such as infestation by ground termites (there are lots in my yard) or the roots hitting crushed coral (which was used as fill when the house was built many years ago and lies at varying depths throughout my yard under the dirt on top of it). The euc may or may not find that agreeable.
Other than that one-time top-dressing, I haven't given the tree anything except for spraying the leaves with fish emulsion about 3 months ago. This seemed to perk it up a bit and there is new growth - but it dies in a month or two.
I guess there is nothing I can do if it is a root problem? Too bad, it was a beautiful tree!
