I saw a tree in my suburb that looked like a brittle gum, so I took a photograph of the buds/fruit. The 7-part buds and 3-valve fruit are consistent with this ID.
As to the sub-species, there was a rough stocking of bark round the base which points to ssp gullickii. Also, the fruit look more obconical than hemispherical. Do you agree?
