For example: The reason we have to try to put some effort into it is because of possible future readers that might find that information useful, but not because of correcting anyone, or because of being pedantic I'll check if we have E. robusta here. I do not think so (different climate), but if it happens I think I will take some shots!

Tom, I am not a botanist, but one of the best learnings I got with time from them is that phonetic spelling is not too important, but written plant names must be kept (or we should try to) stable. For the case of eucalypts, it is even funny because sometimes they give hints on the trees, or can lead to old stories involving them and the people discovering and studying them. So they are sources of information in themselves ![]()
-"Ptychocarpa" means "folded fruit" (because of the urn shaped folded border capsule, I guess).
- J. W. Dwyer collected samples of unknown eucalypts, sent them to botanists, and ended up being honoured with one new species (E. dwyeri) by Joe Maiden & Will Blakely
- "Tereticornis" means "terete horned", which I guess means it has "cylindrical and tapered flower bud caps". "Tetracornus" would mean it has "four horns" ![]()
So do not worry for the spelling here, but yes in your own notes or printed papers.
