Posted by talford in Houston on 8/2/2007, 2:32 pm I wrote in an earlier post about the eucs with the deep green, glossy, wide and very long leaves with flower buds (hypanthium ?) about 6mm diameter. Today I found another type of euc with long ,wide leaves 25 x 5 cm , with flower buds about 6 mm . the buds are 6-7 to a cluster and are ball-like (almost spherical) on thin stalks, 2 mm thick and 7 mm long. What is interesting is the size of what appears to be giant gum-nuts in clusters of a dozen or more . The one I picked and am holding in my hand looks like a medium pecan nut with a big hole in the end, is nearly 3 cm long, and 2 1/2 cm wide, and tapers to about 1 1/2 cm, and has this big recessed hole in the end about 12 mm wide and 7 mm deep. The sides of the recess slope slightly inward till the flat bottom is about 9 mm with a tiny hole in the center of this bottom about 2 mm in diameter and 1 mm deep. So I'm going to cruise the web and see if I can find any giant gum-nut type pics , since , as we all know by now, I do not have a digital camera . It would be something if this giant gumnut was once a flower, but I'm thinking maybe not because then this euc would have to have 2 sets of flowers. So If anyone wants to enlighten me , just jump right in and set the record straight. Still working on trying to get in touch with the man who planted all these exotic plants on the 10 acres with 1/2 acre pond. Say, I hope Gus didn't dissappear while running with the bulls up in Pamplona..... Ok, Just kidding , Gus.

Today I pushed further back into the 10 acre property planted in exotic plants with lots of eucs included. I think there may be a minimum of 8 species of eucs on this property all about 5-10 years in age.
Later.
