Posted by carien on 7/22/2002, 7:33 pm If your answer to this is yes then I urge you to explore the following groups so that you can get in on the in depth discussions that we have everyday about these types of topics and so much more. Get involved and make things better for yourself as well as those that will come along in the future. This is the general equine photographers list, open to all, pros and amateurs and is a very active discussion group, tons of info here; This is a restricted list for Pros only, here we are trying to tackle some of the more sensitive and involved topics and problems that we face in our businesses; And lastly, join the Network so that people can find you when they are seeking a photographer, showcase your work and contribute to the newsletter. This is a great opportunity to be heard, check out the newsletter archives to read all the topics already discussed, there is no other place like it on the World Wide Web! See link below and enjoy the site! Making a change is going to be a slow process, but as a group we are already starting to see some changes, be a part of it!
As we move into the digital age we as a group need to set the standards with our clients as to what is acceptable and what is not. Too many of us are frustrated by the continual theft of our services and images by people that are not aware of copyright laws as well as magazines that have been given work for nothing for too long by photographers that only want the thrill of seeing their work in print.
Please give careful consideration to how you price your work and price the usage of your work accordingly. Please set a price on your work that reflects the big picture of what it takes to stay in business, setting your prices too low will price you right out of business. If people are buying your photos then obviously your work has value, don't underprice yourself!
Yes, most of us work alone but are we really in competition with eachother or is it time to work together so that we can raise the standards for all of us as a group and finally be accepted and treated as professionals?
