Now Playing: Beautiful Times

Posted by MN~Sue Thanks so much for the update!! I haven't been online for awhile, just getting a chance to check the board today. We've been so busy with trying to get things in order for our remodel this spring. Our window replacements and for the addition are already delivered and are being stored by the business in town. We went there Monday, when Terry was off work, to look at them and pay for them. We have lots of snow on the ground, so spring seems a long way off.... I am so sorry to hear of all the problems you are encountering! I hope the guy making the U-turn got ticketed! That person sure caused problems for others! I am so sorry to hear that you are still feeling the impact of that collision on your body. Melanie, have you been diagnosed with FMS (fibromyalgia)? My own experience with FMS is that I have such a magnified pain response to almost any stimuli. In other words, things that would not normally cause someone extreme pain or any pain, can cause severe lingering pain for me. Monday, hubby and I were in a furniture store and one annoying salesman kept telling us to try out a specific tempurpedic bed. It was so high off the ground and I am only about 5' tall. The bed came up to my waist! I didn't want to try that one because of the height, so I tried one that was lower to the ground. He kept saying, you have to try this one, he owned it, saying the pillowtop tempurpedic was great....so, stupidly, I struggled to get on and off of it. I had to put my knee onto the bed and pull myself up to get on it and then struggle to get off. I didn't feel anything at the time, but later that night and most of yesterday, my knee and entire leg were aching so badly, that I couldn't sleep and had trouble walking on it. I realized it had to be from the 'bed climbing incident' haha...... It's so nuts, because it caused pretty severe and disabling pain for 24 hours. A 'normal' person would have never had a pain reaction like that, if any pain. Recenly, I shoveled a fairly light amount of snow, but could feel a muscle knotting in my upper back (on my 'good' side), but I didn't stop shoveling. The next day, I was in severe pain. I couldn't even get in and out of bed and eventually had to try to get some sleep in the recliner AND this was after taking muscle relaxant AND vicoden I had left from my gyn for my endo. They barely touched the pain! I had to take the muscle relaxant at the maximum dosing for 4 days before it started to get better. I don't know if the vicoden was possibly not as effective as it should be, since it has been 'saved' since 2002, haha. But, still, it just amazes me how having FMS causes such severe pain reactions, for minor things and also for 'nothing' at all. I am so sorry that not only are you suffering pain from the car accident, as if that wasn't enough, you are having to deal with getting the repairs taken care of with an uncooperative insurance company too - UGH. I hope that you get that resolved to your satisfaction, soon! AND then on top of all of that, you are still dealing with your original health problems and facing your husband being deployed. ((((((((My heart really goes out to you, Melanie))))))) I pray your upcoming tests are not to stressful to go through and that they can hold the answer to you getting treatment that will relieve your pain. I wish your hubby did not have to go to Afghanastan!! I pray it is a short tour of duty and that he will stay completely out of harm's way!! I just can't even imagine going through that, in your hubby's shoes or yours. I remember how worried I was when Terry joined the army during the Viet Nam war. He was never sent into battle, partly because he enlisted and was not drafted, which at that time, meant you had a better chance of being located in Europe, which turned out to be the case for him (Italy). I know! The weather has certainly changed around the world!! Global warming is having it's impact! We had very little snow and mild temps, most of this winter. Then we got hit with about a 2 week stretch with VERY cold temps in the minus 20-30 degree range. Due to little snow coverage for insulation on the ground, it was estimated that 20% of residences in the area had frozen septics. This has been a recurring problem in the past few years, something that was pretty unheard of before that time, with normal snowfalls. We also had RAIN when the temps were too warm and that coupled with what snow we did have on our roof, that then melted, we think contributed to leaks we experienced for the first time ever, from our roof - UGH. We think that problem, combined with some of the bad work our roofers did 3 years ago, was to blame. The roofers put nails in areas they shouldn't have, subjecting those areas to water leaks. We also think ice dams occured on the roof with the crazy weather and that combined with the roofers poor work of the way they did the 'valleys' on the roof, contributed to the water backing up under the shingles and causing 8 or so water spots/leaks on our ceiling. So, now we are trying to sort that out, in addition to the remodel plans. We spent $8,000 less than 4 years ago to have our house and garage roofs redone (take off old shingles and put on new) and now it leaks for the first time in 31 years, grrrr. We understand the frustrations you feel dealing with the insurance company, we can't even get the roofing company to return A PHONE CALL.....grrrrr Terry has called them numerous times over the past 3 weeks, since the leaks appeared, and still has not heard from them! They are a terrible outfit to deal with, which we only learned from experience, AFTER contracting with them to do our roof. Thank goodness, we believe we have a very good contractor doing our remodel and living room enlargement. The general contractor we have been working with has been SO helpful and given us oodles of his time and is very knowledgeable. We are hearing the same thing about them from others in the community, like the business we bought the windows from, for example. We believe this company will stand behind all of their work, should we encounter any problems, unlike the roofing outfit! We are buried in snow now, after the 2 blizzards that came our way recently and have had more snow since then also and it's been cold. Today we have blue skies and it's VERY bright, with the light reflecting off all the white snow. They are forecasting a warm-up as the week goes on, with temps maybe near 40, which will start melting this snow some.........I hope we don't find it leaking into our ceiling again. Terry is going to purchase these roof heating units to use in the future to try to prevent ice dams from forming on the roof, in hopes of preventing leaking. I don't know if he is planning to get on the roof to shovel off the snow to get those in place or if he is going to wait for the melting to start and then install them before ice can form. Please keep us posted on your hubby and yourself. I keep you both in my prayers and thoughts. Best wishes with your upcoming appt. next week!!!! Let us know how that goes, please. Love and Hugs,
