Now Playing: Beautiful Times

Posted by Kristy Well, I have another update to give. As you can see that I'm not waiting for a month to the update to be given. Since I last posted I had my next appt with my Pain Management dr and got the results of the MRI done on the 16th. The results of the pelvic MRI done on the 16th came up negative which is both good and bad. Good in that we know that it's not in the pelvic area but bad b/c we still aren't sure what is causing this pain. I had told my Pain Management dr about the issue with the shots again and her thought was that it was the peripheral nerves. Well, after having done some research I discovered that my PM dr has been treating the peripheral nerves all this time. So even though I've had one MRI done already the PM dr is suggesting another MRI but done with a magnet that has a speed of 3.0 (meaning that the faster the magnet is the faster that the images will be downloaded to the computer) to see if we can get a better pic of what is going on. Her concern was that my insurance would not cover it since I already had one MRI done. I found out from the insurance company that they would do so if the dr can prove medical necessity. So that means I could have a number of them if need be. After I told the receptionist of the PM dr about this and some other info on the subject I got a call back later in the day telling me that now the PM dr wants to talk to my gyn about this. Well, it's now been 2 weeks since the appt on the 28th and they still have yet to talk to each other. When I first found out that they hadn't talked to each other yet I told the receptionist of the PM dr that I want to talk to my gyn first. For one this was to let her know about the result of that appt on the 28th but also to keep her updated on me as well as to let her know to expect a call from the PM dr so that they could talk about this situation. During the course of the conversation with my gyn she brought up the urogyn again and told me that she thought that they would do a better job at finding out what was wrong with me than a neurologist (this is what the PM dr told me, do an EMG if the second MRI does not get approved). Problem with this is that the dr she wants me to see is a male dr. I know some women like male gyns and that's fine for them but I don't like them and have had bad experiences with them the two times I went to them. I also don't feel that male drs should be gyns but as I said everyone is different. If that isn't enough I found out that this dr that she wants me to see is the husband of the one I saw at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville 3 years ago (and also told me that if I thought I had a bladder problem I need to go to a urologist for). Well, I'm going to tell my gyn that I won't go to the specialist as she recommends. I probably won't be telling her that though til after the first of the year. If there were more female urogyns I might consider it again. But as I told my gyn it had been to urogyn 3 years ago and it got me nowhere. She had an answer back for me. Her answer was, "but it's been 3 years since you were there so maybe something has shown up now. I hope that the fact that I won't go to the specialist she recommends won't affect our relationship as patient and physician. I had a rough day with this pain yesterday so was using my hot water bottle to help with it. And the same today when I was in bed even though it's a bit better now. I will keep you all posted as to how this goes. Other than that I'm hanging in there. Kristy Link: Kristy's Personal Story
