I've noticed that many folks are working on basic obedience skills with their pups (GSD and Dutch mostly) BEFORE they get a good, well rounded, very social animal. If you work your pup on controlling itself before it knows much about the environment, you risk having a real hard time with your dog as he matures. It's a classic "cart before the horse" situation. If you inhibit your dog while it's young from exploring and understanding it's environment, you will have to go backwards in your training. Socializing, change of environment, noises, smells, etc. will take high priority when your dog is old enough to blow you off... So, make sure your dog is allowed, even encouraged to get his young oats out, while he is still able to be controlled by you!
Happy Fourth of July, and good training!!!
