I would need the name of the trainer that you are planning on using. Having trainers in the area is nice, but you have to pick one.. or maybe two. I want you to visit with the trainers, go to their facility, watch some training. French Ring is the most demanding sport there is. My dogs excel, but the time commitment from the owner is huge. There are so many different types of training out there... compulsion, e collar, etc. My dogs respond best to a balanced approach, that uses compulsion and reward equally.
I'm not tickled that you don't own your own home. These dogs do NOT do well in apartment/condo living, and when you are rooming with someone, anything can happen. Here's another question. Your hypothetical pup is four months old. You've just given it it's first pig ear. He turns into a baby cujo when you look at him with his ear... growling, snarling, snapping even if you come near him, let alone reach for the pig ear. What do you do?
