I'm not doing well with recall training. If Miles is on leash and I call him back to me, he'll almost always come right away. Any other time he seems to consider his options then do whatever he feels like.
I've done training off leash in the woods with treats, and once he figures out I have something in my pocket, he's great. He's pretty good off leash in the woods even when I don't have treats, but isn't consistent.
There are other times, though, when he downright ignores me. The other day he got out of the car in a parking lot and wouldn't come until I sat on the ground in a grassy area. If it had been busier, it could have been dangerous for him.
Any suggestions? He's about nine months, and was a stray, so no training until 6 1/2 months. Overall, he's turning out to be a great dog and is generally pretty obedient. But recall seems like the most important command he needs to know/obey.
