Re: diarrhea in puppy
Hi there! Great to hear from you!! On your pups way to adulthood, there will be much call for Immodium.... after eating a frog... eating deer feces, eating.. eating.. You get the picture! This is where patience, and a bottle of immodium comes in. Of course, you could be dealing with a parasite as well. So. First. Immodium. try that for three days, while on the same food. What ever you choose, just stay on it. If it subsides, great. If not, or it gets worse ( can't control it, going in the crate, ) Go to two days of boiled hamburger with equal parts boiled rice, to re set the gut. Then try again. If the diarrhea persists, then it's time to treat for either coccidia or giardia, or both. I use metrozanidole, or ponazuril. the 'zole can be purchased through Valley vet supply, and the ponazuril is a horse wormer, so can be purchased at a large animal vet, or again, at Valley vet.
Off and on, though, this is to be expected. Pups need to experiment, and we need to feed them a bunch of different things as they are growing, so to provide good intestinal flora and fauna.
