Re: Potential SD prospect
Good to hear! I understand the push for "purely positive". Dog training has changed a LOT since I first started. The major difference, however, has been the insistence that all behavior problems in all dogs can be "fixed" by positive only approaches. In my area, those dogs that are deemed aggressive, reactive, or "not able to be trained" are sent to me. All of them, especially those that aren't able to be trained, are very easily trained by using a different method. I have saved countless dogs from being euthanized, simply because I remember, and use, compulsion. In doing so, I've been told by others that (this is a real quote from a person) "it's better to be dead then to have to wear a prong collar". I simply don't agree. It's fine to have a preferred method that you like, and use first, but you will find that you can help more dogs, and more people, by opening yourself to as many methods as possible. Good luck in your career!
