About my dog and training: I love that he loves other dogs and we have done a lot of work on knowing when it is appropriate to play. He has come leaps and bounds, but it's still a work in progress. He's a lover and I love that about him. I have trained him to do all the tasks I listed except picking up a dropped object (that's next on our list) and we are still in the beginning stages of the alert task. Everything else he can do at home and in public, even with distractions as long as those distractions aren't "scary". He also needs a little more heel work.
The fear issue is really the only thing I am super worried about. He has gained a lot of confidence and trust, especially in me, since we got him but he still has a long way to go. I don't mind if he is a little insecure or a little timid, he will always be on the timid side, it's when his fear affects him so much that he cannot do his job, which is the problem I am facing right now. Like I said, I definitely haven't given up on him, and I work hard to help him learn the world isn't as scary as he thinks, I just have this fear that it maybe won't be enough.
As for starting everything from scratch and trying to learn to train dogs in the process, I know it is a lot. But honestly, I love it. I have great mentor trainers and I enjoy learning everything I can; from them, from books, from whatever I can get my hands on (P.S. you have any good resources I can look into I am all ears!!)
Thank you again for taking time out for me. I really appreciate it and honesty wish I lived closer so I could learn more from you!
