I'm in the beginning stages of looking for my next dog as I am planning on getting the dog next year. I am looking for a dog of one of the shepherd breeds. I know I probably can't handle a Belgian Malinois as they are a bit to intense for me but I am extremely interested in Dutch Shepherds. Though I have nothing against German Shepherds and have owned a few in the past I am put off by the high incidences of dysplasia and the sloping backs that many of the dogs seem to sport.
As I am reading about Dutchies I have noticed a lot people talk about how they are extremely hyper dogs unless they get boat-loads of exercise each day.
I want to do a lot with my dog, but I still want them to be relatively calm in the house.
I am planning on getting into some sports with my next dog as a hobby, though not competitively. Some activies I plan on doing are obedience, disc dog, treibball, and therapy work.
I was thinking perhaps a half-hour jog/run in the mornings and evenings and then about an hour of something mentally challenging like the sports I listed above. Is this enough "work" to satisfy a Dutchie?
