Hi all! I'm sure that some of you know that there has been some heated discussions regarding a recent "trial" that was held in private, and the fallout there after.
This is really pretty funny, when you think about it. 20 years ago, when CCDSA was hosting French Ring trials, we had 40 dog entries, our Championship trials HAD to be spread out due to the number of entries, and our decoys and judges were flown here from France....Many people at that time that were doing Ring (or trying to, anyway 
) were working hard to get me and our club out of the way, so they could do it easier, faster, with American judges that didn't have to do the same things as the French judges to become judges, and American decoys that didn't have to do the same things French decoys do.... and here it is again! We are planning a true Brevet, with a French judge and a French decoy (who is also an American) and suddenly there are "improptu" trials, another quiet Brevet planned in Michigan, and all because CCDSA wants to do things the right way.. or the French way, as I call it. What possesses folks to react this way?? If someone else nearby had told me that they were planning a Brevet this year, I would have encouraged our entire club to attend THAT trial... if I believed that another club was going through the expense of bringing a well known, powerful French judge here, I would be making hotel arrangements... Is it a fear? Is it jealousy?
Years ago, "Maine-ly Ring Sport" club was hosting the French Ring Championships. Our entire CLUB went.. taking vacation days, driving beaters, sleeping in tents, so that we could go and support the club giving the trial. We went out early, helped clean up the field, made repairs to the jumps, bought supplies, and basically did everything we could to help. What I heard after the trial astounded me... We all had club shirts, and jackets, and because of that I heard from Mr. Bob Dixon (President of Maine-ly) that we had come out to his trial to "intimidate" them...which was the farthest thing from my brain that you could imagine. How then, do you think the folks that are doing this in the here and now are affected by us? I thought then that it was the natural suspicious nature of east coast folks... but this is all happening right here in Michigan... any input to the way this could be explained to me would be great.....
