Hi there. I need your input on how to fix a problem I created with Blade. I have unwittingly trained Blade that he doesn't need to come when I call him when we're outside in the yard and he is free. If we are doing a training exercise where I put him in a down stay formally and he knows we're working he comes every time. If we're in the house, he comes every time. It's when we're not in a work/training mode and we're outdoors that he ignores me. This is entirely on me because I gave him the opportunity to ignore the command as I could not enforce it (didn't have him on a long line)repeatedly. I now have him on a long line every time he goes into the yard. My question is, what are your thoughts on correcting him if he does not come when called? He knows what the command means. He also knows that there's currently no consequence if he ignores it when we're outside. I seem to remember the rule being to never correct the dog in association with the come command but since I've got to untrain this behavior that I've created I'm wondering if I need to implement a negative consequence at this point. I did some research and Ed Frawley seems to support this method but I wanted to get your take on it before I did anything with a correction. Currently I'm just calling him to come and reeling him in if he ignores me. Thanks....K
