UKC Dog Sports Judge
The 13th annual DOG SPORTS OPEN is now in the books. What a wonderful weekend of dog show people getting together to visit, train and compete. Once again we must give our immeasurable thanks to the hard working decoys, our esteemed judges Chris Fraize and Kevin Bailey, and all the CCDSA club members and numerous volunteers who all worked together to present this THE most unique personal protection tournament in the country. Quodos again to the warped twisted mind of Cheryl Carlson for creating this event, which actually began as the “Renegade Classic” back in 1984. Cheryl’s inventive imagination is still in high gear despite her current chemotherapy treatments .... nothing can hold her down!
This year’s theme was “Descent Into Hell”, and dealt with breed specific legislation and the slippery slope you slide down into hell when bureaucrats start banning breeds. Can you imagine anything more hellish than a life forced to be destroyed because your best friend, babysitter, companion and guardian is not of a breed on the approved list? The tournament opened with each contestant being forced to dress their dog as a golden retriever in order to gain access to the public way. A series of mishaps occurs along the course, and each dog and handler team navigated a unique and slippery set of obstacles while warding off bad guys at every turn.
