So Nico has contracted kennel cough.
And to treat the inflammation, he was prescribed Prednisone. A wonderful drug, and I use the word "wonderful" with the utmost sarcasm. As a result of this fantastic pharmaceutical, Nico is acting incredibly bizarre. Last night on our walk, he saw a woman that he knows and likes very well. He was wagging his tail in a happy fashion, and sat, and things were good. She got within 10 feet and he backed up, hair standing up the length of his back, tail wagging, but super slow and was growling and then barked that fearful deep howling bark of his. I could not console him, or get him to respond to me at all. It was like she had two heads or something! Of course I advised the woman not to approach further.
I have never ever seen that behavior out of him before. I mean I have seen him back up before, heck anyone that was at the September CCDSA Trial, saw him back up, but this was so very different. Perplexed, Brad & I began researching the drugs he is on for the dreaded Kennel Cough, and wouldn't you know it, but Prednisone, the wonder drug, can cause abnormal behavior in your dog. Now I don't know if that is what caused Nico to flip his lid, it could've been a combination of things. Has anyone ever had to use Prednisone for their dog and experienced anything similar?
What a week, I hope this crap goes away soon. Have a good one!
