Hi Folks! I am new to the board so go easy on me!
My husband & I are proud owners of a Dutch Shepherd, Nico, and have recently entered the exciting world of Dog Sports (which I hope lives on) and Competitive Obedience.
I have a question about whether or not a protection dog can also be a therapy dog. The reason I am puzzled about the two practices co-existing in one dog, is because of what the therapy dog has to put up with (being non-reactive around potentially crazy people). But perhaps it is all the more reason why a "finished" protection dog is so very important to have. Perhaps the ideal protection dog can do both in the same manner that a well trained protection dog should be able to go from "work" to "friendly" in the blink of an eye.
Thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions?
Looking forward to discussion - Have a great weekend everyone!
