For general obedience, no.. but I have found them helpful for dogs that whine in class, or when out and about.. for dogs that are dog aggressive, and have a slow handler, for dogs that are handler aggressive, and then of course, for those dogs that try to eat every body, everything, and anyone that moves.. it can give the handler an advantage, since it turns the dogs head, AND shuts it's mouth. I feel that the general idea, however is too foreign to a dog for it to understand it in simple obedience, and too dangerous to the neck of the dog with most handlers.
