Hi there! Normal, healthy adults will be able to "fight" off the virus, or if they do get it, it will not be life threatening. Stressed dogs, puppies, and the elderly dog are the most problematic.
Some folks do not understand the importance of being aware of maternal antibodies, and how they impact your vaccination schedule. I simplify this by NEVER VACCINATING MY BREEDING FEMALES. If I do have to vaccinate them, because of shipping, showing, or whatever, I make sure the pups are kept from nursing at least two weeks before their first vaccine, and then I vaccinate again in two weeks, rather than three, just in case the first one was made weaker by exposure to mothers milk.
Vaccinating is just one tool in disease prevention. Making sure that your dog is not overly stressed, has proper nutrition, and comes from breeding that is not already immune compromised, is your best bet as a concerned owner.
