That's a really good question but I can only say 'hi' and 'bye' in Hungarian so had to go on observation alone. My daughter spoke more of the language but not enough to talk in a conversation - just enough to get around. So, while I wanted to learn more about their attitudes towards dogs I couldn't. BTW, few Hungarian's spoke English and the ones that did had trouble with 'hello' and 'goodbye'. Most of them said 'hello' when we were saying 'goodbye'. My guess based on observation alone is that their dogs are pets primarily. I forgot to mention I did see one Belgian Malinois in a train station. He may have been more than just a pet ;-)
