Well folks, its time to say goodbye.
With the decision to stop bite work with my most recent working prospect (a really nice mal from great lines, but he just didn't have it); I find myself, for the first time in more than a decade, without a dog to work. Deciding to take stock of things, I came to the conclusion that its time to move on and leave the working dog arena behind.
There are several reasons. My kids are older and need more time. My decoy is 90 miles away (thats almost $50 in gas every weekend)And the biggest reason I think is a growing sense of been there done that.
I mean over the last 15 years I have titled in Ring, Mondio, Schutzhund, PSA, K9 Prosport, and NAPD. I have competed in 3 DSOs, 3 Fallbrawls, and 3 Tuff Dogs. Then there are the 20 to 30 club trials of various types. I mention this not as a boast, but as a tabulation of how lucky I have been.
I have had 3 of the most enjoyable personal dogs to train. My GSDs Kosta and Dice. My Mal Meko. Not to mention the dozens of others I have been lucky enough to work.
I have met and called friend some the greatest dog people in the world. Doug and Jan White, Felix Sunga, Gregg Tawny, the Kilcommons, Deb, Sandy and Jill and so many others. You know Cheryl I looked it up and we go back an even dozen years this July. I have even seen a loud mouthed upstart in Maine of all places turn into one of the most successful trainers on the East Coast. My thanks to you all for so many wonderful memories
As to the future I cant say. I do know I will never be without a dog and who knows, someday I may be back. Anyway I hope you will forgive me for rambling on. Goodbye has never been easy for me. So how about good training and see ya later.
