A lot of the Sch. people I've trained with over the years have told me how the sport has been "softened" to favor less serious aggression in the bitework. Since I wasn't there I'd like to get the opinions of Cheryl and the other posters here who were. If this is true, how much have the dogs been softened?
One thing I've definitely seen in my short time with training is a move towards a softer training style across all disciplines. Many people don't seem to be comfortable seeing a good, firm correction delivered and want to "re-educate" you on why corrections are outdated and unnecessary. While training at Cher-Car before the DSO last year I gave a stiff (and fair) correction to my dog and was pleasantly surprised when Cheryl praised me for doing it. I've given softer corrections at other clubs and people look at me like I just lit the dog on fire.
Is the softer approach weakening the dogs, and in the process, the titles?
