Well, Paul got his deer this year. He's been skunked for a couple of years. This isn't the best picture...he's yacking on the phone to my brother and it is obviously dark.
Paul said this is the biggest buck he has ever gotten...rack and body size. It "was" an 8 point...with the rack extending well outside the ears. We are guessing on the field dressed weight to be around 150 pounds. Paul, my brother Larry and I were straining our guts trying to get the dang thing hung up.
So the story on it having been an 8 point.....
Paul shot at it using his muzzle loader. He thought he hit it, but it didn't go down but it also didn't move. So he fiddles around, getting another load ready for his muzzle loader. Manages to get off another shot, but totally misses and the deer still doesn't move or go down. Once again, he readies another shot, adjusts his aim thinking he shot too low, manages to shoot the deer through the ear which either richocheted off the antler into the ear or, out the ear and knocking off the antler.
Cheryl came over after club training and helped Paul get it out of the field and found the antler he shot off. Cheryl can fill in the details of this story that I've left out.
