Posted by Carole Field Talk about a walk down memory lane! Deb Hebeler last competed in French Ring (with Remo) in 1989, while I competed (with Fala) in 1992, 1993 and 1994… and still have my original 1987 “Societe Centrale Canine (S.C.C.) Book of Regulations for Competition in French Ring Sport” with the official 1992 Rule Changes translated by Jean-Michel Moreau, NARA (North American Ring Association) Training Director. Of course Cheryl Carlson (the over achiever) competed from 1989 thru 1995 and served as NARA President from 1992 thru 1995. I couldn’t begin to speculate how many dozens of titles she and her students obtained, but I’m sure with a little prodding we might be able to get her to dig up some statistics. So, five brave (or crazy?!) members of our Capital City Dogsport Association traveled back to Belleville to try for Brevet titles on our personal protection dogs… with all of about about six training sessions conducted over a month’s time! YIKES! Well, let me tell you; we had a whole bunch of fun! Nick King entered his 2 GSDs Juno and Polo, Jackie Marshal entered her BSM Coala, Lori Webster entered her DSs Rush and Touche, Deb Hebeler entered her BSM Talon and I entered my GSD Nicky. While Nick, Deb and I had a few “control issues” with our dogs (darn, drat and double darn!), both Jackie Marshal and Coala and Lori Webster with Rush were successful in obtaining a Brevet… and Lori took High Brevet in Trial with Rush’s score of 86. CONGRATULATIONS! Attached is a picture of Judge Dominique Piton presenting Lori and Rush the HIT trophy along side Training Director Cheryl Carlson.

How does the saying go? “Old dog trainers never die, they just drop on recall!” Well, one sunny day last month (9/1/07 to be exact) a bunch of us were sitting ring side offering good cheer and moral support to Jill Wenzel and her Giant Schnauzer “Rue” in their attempt to obtain a Ring 2 leg (handled by Cheryl Carlson) at the Motor City Ring Club Trial in Belleville, MI. To make a long story short, a bunch of us “old dog trainers” were encouraged to enter their next trial to insure sufficient entries and secure the trial taking place.
