Posted by Nelson Dogs are social and territorial creatures. So its in their genes to be protective to their pack and living space. How they protect depends on each individual's character, temperament, attitude and training. If/when you are in the house gives your dog an additional reason to protect. If people coming to house are known to the dog, most likely your dog might not get defensive about that person going in and about your household. Nelson

Although I've never seen your dog to give a concrete assessment of this situation, I can give you a couple of general pointers here.
