Posted by Brian You must start from a high state to get the correct start bit detection in the UART. All the MAB does is make sure a UART is ready to recieve a correct byte of data. The most reliable way is as you've done, wait for a framing error, and the next byte will be the start code.

The MAB is needed with any processor/uart the next valid character cannot start until the line has been taken high.
