The best thing to do is to create a personality cache within the console for the fixtures that you use most (from among your rental suppliers).
There is a cache utiliy which can store a fixed number of personalities in the console's memory.This is utility is available for download from the Avo website. With the cache you won't need to patch fixtures from pendrives or floppys
Another advice on floppy drives in a PEARL. Always format the disk IN THE CONSOLE ITSELF. IBM Preformatted disks don't always work correctly.
Also, it is well known among Pearl veterans that a 720K format is more stable, unless AVO has done some drastic software changes in the past 3 years.
