I have worked with some TV productions on the Assembly computer festival.
In those productions some years ago quite often two control desk approach was used. One traditional DMX desk (more or less advanced) was used to control the "normal" studio lights. Another DMX desk or PC with DMX interface was used to control the moving lights.
In addition to this in some case there was third controller for some special effects.
