Hi everyone,
First of all i'd like to start by saying how wonderful it is that I wasn't made aware that there was more than one version of Mojo Scan I available, and because of this I now own a MJC-1 (older version) and a MJC-1X (newer version). The gobo boundarys are out of step by one digit (eg. Red triangle on MJC-1 = 10-19, and red triangle on MJC-1X = 9-18). Whoopee, so the colours won't match, but not the end of the world. (They will match, however, if I plug in the DM4 controller).
Secondly, i'd like to express my delight when I opened the box of the new MJC-1X and found a crucial part of the head mechanism had snapped off and was merrily laying in the packaging, causing me to send the whole thing back.
Yet another wonderful experience I had was on the day after, when a new SC-1 'simple wired controller FOR INTELLIGENT SCANNERS, PARTICULARLY MJC-1X' (from geni) arrived. I promptly plugged this into the MJC-1 and.... well. Nothing. It didn't want to know. It did however when I plugged in my already wonderful DM4 controller that you've heard me ranting about in this forum. I know the SC-1 works, as I stuck it into my Spinmaster III, and that happily whizzed round correctly. The MJC-1 also works when i connected the Spinmaster to it, and ran an audio show on the Spinmaster, and the MJC-1 whizzed around as a slave (looked a bit weird considering the heads are different, but the MJC-1 still received the signal correctly.
It leads me to believe that the lovely SC-1 has a peculiar style of DMX signal, even though it says in the manual that it is 'standard USITT DMX512, which is what the MJC-1 can receive. And yes, at times I did think "I'm going to hit this with a sledge hammer", but then realised that probably wouldn't improve its functionality, and so decided not to.
As always, every window in the process of ordering a new light has been filled with disaster. They don't sell MJC-1's anymore, so i'll just make do with the replacement MJC-1X coming tomorrow. I think the last thing left to go wrong is if I open the box tomorrow, and they've sent half a ton of whale meat or something like that.
Sorry about this - I often find the best way to talk about useless technology is to look on the funny side!
I wondered whether anyone out there owns an SC-1, or for that matter an MJC-1. Can you connect the two? Is it possible? Is it worth it? Is anything ever going to work? Am i an idiot? Well, probably.
Please help, and if you can't, i hope you've enjoyed reading my very own 'James's Mojo Scan Escapades' account, and thanks for reading anyway.
I look forward to any help that you superior DMX wizards out there can give me. (That doesn't mean psychiatric help, either).
