Why wouldn't you want to have all the dimmers of one chassis respond as a unit? A moving light that uses 16 channels should not respond as 16 devices and have to be discovered 16 times. A single device can have multiple sub-devices (up to 512). This parameter is specifically designed for dimmer racks. See section 6.2.9 SUB-DEVICE FIELD of the E1.20 RDM document.
