This event is to honor the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 while rescuing thousands from the World Trade Center. Each participant is asked to walk or run 1 mile in memory of one our fallen brother firefighters.
We were asked why "firefighters" and not everyone. By honoring the fallen 343 we honor the memory of ALL who were lost on September 11, 2001 in New York City, Washington D.C. and Shanksville ,PA. Our hope is to someday have enough participants to call this the "3,000 miles for the Fallen 3,000". Any funds raised are donated to charities that assist the victims of September 11, 2001 and also are used for firefighter training and safety in our area.
Last year the FIRST STATE F.O.O.L.S. were able to donate $1,000 to a charity in New York City that supplies transportation for victims of the attacks of September 11, 2001 or for rescuers who are suffering from illness's resulting from the rescue and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site, known as Ground Center.
Please join on Friday September 11, 2009 to honor the memory and sacrifice of so many on that most terrible day in our history. They live on through us!
This is not just a fireman thing, it's a human being thing. Be a patriot and walk to remember.........
