Mike Helton was interviewed by Rick Benjamin and Chocolate Myers on Sirius XM today and was asked about Dale Jr. Rick said a lot has been written over the last year or two that one of the things that would lift the cup series and get some excitement going is if we could see Dale Jr running back at the front and winning some races. Rick asked Mike if the effect of that would help the series. Mike said it is certainly a factor. Jr's fan base and following is huge and Mike said their wanting him to be successful as much as Jr himself wants to be successful certainly would be uplifting. Mike said the sport would be uplifted if Jr was successful which Mike said goes to his point that Nascar rigs races and throws cautions to get people up front. Mike said if we could do that Dale Jr would have been in victory lane a few times this year. Mike said to Choc that Dale Sr went through cycles of not being very competitive for a while and he got frustrated as well as his fans but they stood by him. Mike said he thinks Dale Jr's fans will stand behind him too. Mike said Dale Jr will turn it around and the 88 bunch will turn it around. He said you can already see improvement on the track so it will come back around and when it does, it helps.
