Re: No comments on.... Mama
No, she is not on hospice. She only started treatment a week ago. I believe they put her on palliative care because she couldn't keep food nor water down for five days. They probably are treating her differently than they do others who do not have the severe reaction to chemo. Nobody has said much to me except we have to see how she reacts to treatment. Nothing more. Except for the palliative care doctor, who said what she has isn't curable. Neither is Alex Trebek who has lived and worked 16 months with Stage 4, and others who have had surgery with Stage 4. I believe Kaiser doesn't do surgery at Stage 4 because it isn't cost effective. Mayo will do it, UCLA will do it. Of course it is all individual, it depends on the response of each patient, but Kaiser is known by all to be a model for cost effectiveness. $ is the bottom line. They are oversubscribed. If one goes down, it doesn't matter. They just say "Next." I was a Kaiser member when my children were small. My mother and Dad were members all their years in California. My sister's inlaws were members too. Nobody in the family ever survived anything serious.
