My parents had specific instructions in their wills to be cremated with no memorials or markers for their ashes. My mom was a dedicated gardener until her later years and wanted her ashes scattered in a memorial rose garden which I did. The same for dad. He said that if I felt the need to bury him to use the VA because it's free. I also had a memorial tree planted for each of them, as well as the rest of their generation, in Elysian Park in L.A.
My brother in law wanted his ashes scattered at sea. So my sis in law charted a boat for us to do so. She gave us each a small container with some of his ashes. We buried his in our yard because he loved to come and look at our garden.
We've told our kids to have us cremated and scatter our ashes at sea.
