I'm saying that if it were necessary, a doctor would do what he had to do to save the mother. a child thought to be inviable would be kept comfortable to die a natural death without any new law giving permission. With a law in place stating its OK, it opens the door for the mother to change her mind about having the child for whatever reason and use a manufactured excuse to abort. I don't know how it effects criminal law, where someone killing or trying to kill a pregnant woman is guilty of homicide if the child dies.
As I said, more than half the population whether they approved of abortion or not felt the laws as had were a necessity. Only a small proportion of people either for or against abortion were for extreme changes.
When I say blow back, what passing the new bill did was throw a new spotlight on the issue and gave States with a majority of pro-life constituents momentum to tighten their laws.
