I have to plead ignorance here since I didn't look it up. After all these years there is no way to know what was in those pills or tablets in the 50s and 60s. The only other thing I can think of, if there was no herbal or chemical that caused abortion while trying to bring on menstruation, is they acted as some kind of weird placebo (they believed it would work) and the girls somehow mentally aborted themselves. But that's hard to believe.
Too much coincidence if they just happened to spontaneous miscarry while taking those pills. And the few who went ahead and chose to go full term and have a baby were NOT taking them.
Fortunately I had no use of Pinkham's pills since had I got pregnant it would have been by immaculate conception. Jesus would have had a sister or brother. And my menses was never late. It was always on time - like clockwork all my life.
