This has been going on for many years. If I heard it on TV or saw it online it would be old news to me.
Plenty of people are making noise and what good is it doing? A wall, unless like the Berlin Wall, will only slow them down - if that. Drugs are coming in, not on the backs of aliens, but right through the check-points at the border. Also through tunnels. The sniffer dogs don't get them all. And are they even checking every vehicle?
To get over a newer type wall. A cheap anchor and some rope plus a heavy blanket to protect you from the razor wire. Think how many can come over in one night with those cheap implements. There has to be some other way. This wall is going to cost us more to build and maintain than educating their kids or giving bennies to the cheaters and deadbeats.
The other problem I never hear Reps mention is the need for MORE affordable housing. Not just housing for those with good incomes or the retired wealthy. Our population is aging also and not everyone had the good luck to be in our financial situation. There are millions living on SS alone - and maybe small pension. There more millions working in low-paid jobs. These people can't afford a place to live like my son and his SO when it's $1,800 a month for the rent alone. Add electricity, gas, cell phones, cable TV and whatever. Hell, they can't afford it anymore. Rents went up a lot faster than their incomes over the years. That's the main reason they're moving here. And they can only move because we're helping them move financially. The 2008 crash really hurt them. What of those who have no one to help them move where life is more affordable?
I don't know what the answer is other than getting immigrants here faster, deporting illegals, E-Verify, fining and imprisoning those who knowingly hire them or rent to them which is the big draw to come here.
A wall isn't going to make a huge difference.
