We used to eat out several times a week, and travel the country together. We're members of the Southern California Bluegrass Association, and we'd go to concerts in various venues. Unfortunately, we can't do that anymore.
I'm talking more about knitting lately than I'm actually doing. I love researching patterns and have made books of those I want to do someday, but haven't actually started anything new in 2 years. I need to dig out the many boxes of yarn, and the $100 plus set I bought myself of interchangeable needles and crochet hooks. I'll be ready to go when the spirit moves me. I have a brand new digital sewing machine in a box somewhere, and lots of nice fabric, but don't seem to have the time, patience, or desire to learn to use it! There again, it will be there when and if I'm ready.
My main enduring hobby for the last 20 or so years is genealogy. I do that both at home and away, doing research both on the computer and at the primary sites. I've been busy for years volunteering at the genealogy society on the Planning Committee for our incredible yearly Jamboree, and was elected to the Board of Trustees where I served three years as recording secretary. I am a contributing writer for our magazine and a member of the monthly Writers' Group. I attend lectures and seminars, especially those on DNA. I'm helping three adoptees now, to find their birth parents through DNA. That is really fascinating detective work.
I've written a life history, and I'm in the process of proofing and editing it. I go in spurts, again, according to the time I can spend on it.
I also love to read non-fiction and do puzzles of every kind.
I know what you mean about the ladies who talk only about their kids and grandkids. Most of my bookclub ladies do that. How boring!
