Every day I thank my lucky stars that I had the foresight to recognize what was going to happen when I saw the rising trend in rentals. I never imagined that rentals would get as expensive as they are back then. I was in my 50's too when I realized that my projected SS checks wouldn't keep up at that rate. The kids are lucky that they have you guys to fall back on. I understand not wanting to hurt a credit rating but if I were them, I'd rather sit on the money I have and deal with any credit problems later if I needed to than pay it out for something I wasn't using. It all might work out and the landlord might turn their place over quickly so it doesn't really hit them in the pocket so drastically but you never know. I'm sure they probably have a month or two of deposit money involved as well.
