...when someone has a lease and cannot pay the rent due to loss of job or illness? Or for whatever reason. Anyone know? You can't squeeze blood from turnips.
For them, that $5000 would wipe them out. The financial woes began when first my son was laid off, then she was also. Bills continued as both looked for jobs. Savings went. Emergency savings went. With the cost of living so high there in NYC and the job market what it was at the time,... well use your imagination.
She's 57 and they can live with us as long as they need to. I told her to consider bankruptcy rather than have to possibly pay $10,000. Or work out some kind of "good faith" payments of $100 a month forever if a renter isn't found quickly.
They were doing OK until both were out of work for awhile. At their ages it took awhile to find jobs. She's the breadwinner who has always made a lot more than he did. Her last job ended recently.
