I'm with you on this one. I know that if all hope is gone and I was in pain, the faster I'd go to a lasting sleep, the better. My daughter is an Oncologist nurse in a hospital. She feels that many of the patients hang on because of their families who won't let them go and continue to ask for and allow treatments that will do nothing to cure their loved one other than perhaps prolonging their passing a few more days or weeks. She had an old man recently whose skin had become so thin that he had bedsores so severe that his entire buttock area was raw to the muscles beneath beyond any chance of healing. He was immobile so the most that could be done was to keep flipping him from one side to the other. The pain must have been excruciating.
