Just an idea to float...
What about getting a trimmed strip of clear perspex about 3" wide of similar thickness and lap-bonding it under the crack with a nice level coating of clear silicone sealant.
You could put a bead of sealant around the edges as well to tidy it up. It won't look especially pretty but would be strong and keep it all together...
