You can approximately align the headlamp by adjusting the screw so that the main beam is horizontal when projected onto an upright surface about 5 yards away. But you need to be sitting on the bike at the time. The dip beam should obviously be below the main beam position. But to be accurate you need the set-up that they use for MoTs. Perhaps the specs are published somewhere on the Internet so that you could mark out the pattern on a wall.
