Malc, I once had a ride on an old Cushman Allstate scooter.
It's tank was inside the rear engine compartment on top of the side valve engine.
After riding for a while the fuel boiled - I know this because the vapour was being blown out of the breather hole and whisteling; just like a tea kettle.
I retreated to a reasonable distance to have a ciggie whilst it cooled down.
