I have had this from time to time on my Cub. But it never stops the engine from starting and once it has, the compression is back to normal. I too wondered if it was a valve sticking slightly open, but it never seems to have affected anything, and the engine runs like a watch. It sounds as though it is not an uncommon occurrence with small Honda engines.
