When I first started fooling with Elhews, I have to confess I went to them for one reason: they looked better than what I had been hunting over. The physique had me mesmerized. The first couple of Elhew bred dogs I owned were garbage until I bought one from David Calcagni. Chairman had (and still has) the total package: style, nose, toughness, natural retrieving instinct and his traits carry through to his pups. Now that I breed a bit more, what I like most about the Elhew line is how well it crosses with other great lines. When it is all said and done, I think that is what will most be written about the Elhew line: how well it compliments other lines. You can take a linebred Elhew female and cross her to pretty much anything you want, bring through traits from the outcross line, and still maintain the conformation/bidibility most like from the Elhew line. I like that. An example: Erin's Southern Pride x daughter of Elhew Seahorse/Discovery x Hanna's Elhew Lou.

I'm on my first Elhew,a very young female. I don't think I've ever had such a clever and mature little dog.Very playful.A little stubborn,and she will test you,but then does as you want when you let her know the rules!

Unfortunately the farther you get away from Bob Wehle, the more diluted the Elhews will get UNTIL they fade into the sunset. No one has really stepped up to the plate to continue breeding his LINE of dogs. Whereas with the Miller's, Ferrel is very much alive and well and influencing the continued breeding of HIS line of white dogs into the future. Z

Hi Dale (I also posted on "Miller Dog Opinion" in response to Vagas) I currently have a elhew Bi@#h that is heavily bred Hook's Bounty Hunter top and bottom. She is extremely intelligent and very biddable. As a puppy she had a derby placement and currently has placed in 4 out the 5 trials. She is very classy and most of all FUN! As my pup matures and her handler (me) learns how to be a better handler and trainer I think she has a bright future. I was fortunate to purchase this young pup from Glenna and Roger Dvorak from Elkton Maryland with a condition that she be bred to Smokin Hot Trouble down the road..... I can't wait, Smokin Hot Trouble is part of Mike Tracy's string, however, is recovering at home with Roger & Glenna from an injury. Quite a dog! I think he has over 6 open placements style.class and brains. When he's running he digs in so intense he'll throw a rooster tail of gravel and dirt all over the place! If I recall Smokin Hot Trouble also has some Hook's in him. Matter of fact a number of people have already asked to be alerted when when we do the breeding.
